Cam Kirk on Shooting Savage Mode 1: Adaptability and Creativity in Capturing Iconic Moments

Cam Kirk, the renowned Atlanta photographer, recently discussed his experience shooting the highly anticipated 2015 album Savage Mode 1, featuring Metro Boomin and 21 Savage. Having previously worked with both artists, it was only natural for Kirk to be involved in the Savage Mode project.

The iconic photo of Metro Boomin and 21 Savage, standing back to back, was taken the day before the album release, as streaming platforms required last-minute photos. This highlights the importance of adaptability and creativity for photographers, even when faced with limited resources.

During the shoot, Cam Kirk suggested Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti pose on a four-wheeler outside the studio, showcasing his ability to think on his feet. He also managed to capture the desired look for Savage Mode by snapping a shot of 21 Savage fixing his grill.

Cam Kirk's adaptability was further demonstrated when he edited and included an iconic photo of Savage and Metro during an event, solidifying its place in hip-hop history. While John Cannon went on to shoot the Savage Mode 2 project, Cam Kirk eagerly awaits his plaque for his contribution to the groundbreaking collaboration.

Through his work on Savage Mode 1, Cam Kirk exemplifies the significance of adaptability and creativity in photography, proving that even under pressure, a photographer's vision can come to life and create lasting, iconic images.
