COI LERAY:

A Journey of Passion, Authenticity, & Resilience

Coi Leray

Coi LeRay, a distinctive name in the realm of music, unapologetically carved her own path in the industry. Born in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood but proudly identifying as a Jersey girl, Coi has embraced her musical heritage, thanks to her father, Benzino, a founder of The Source magazine and an accomplished musician.

From an early age, Coi found herself immersed in the vibrant world of music. With a home studio at her disposal, she dabbled in various forms of artistic expression - from acting and dancing to rapping and singing. Her commitment to a career in music solidified when she was living independently at just 17. Inspired by A Boogie's music, she penned her first song, "Goofy Ass Niggas," which rapidly gained traction in Jersey, transforming her life.

As a female artist in a male-dominated industry, Coi recognizes the challenges she faces. With no one to co-sign her work, she has to outshine her competitors, maintain her focus on music, and avoid the pitfalls of becoming an "Instagram model" type. In this journey, she has discovered that her distinct style and confidence often intimidate her male counterparts, a testament to her bold personality.

Her forthcoming EP, "Now or Never," is a significant milestone in her career. She has chosen the name to reflect her determination and readiness to meet her music label, Republic, halfway. The EP is expected to showcase her full potential, featuring collaborations with Kiana Lede, Sevyn Streeter, Gunna, and Fetty Wap. Koi's favorite tracks include "Do Better" and "Slide" featuring Gunna.

Coi's music is a reflection of her experiences, which she believes will resonate with her audience. She is meticulous in her songwriting, focusing on hitting the right melodies at the right time to create hit records. Her journey has been filled with challenges and victories, leading to growth and self-discovery.

One of the lessons she emphasizes is the importance of hard work and dedication, drawing analogies to basketball stars like LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and James Harden. She believes that everyone will have their moment, but they must put in the work to get there. She advises her peers not to compare themselves to her or count her success as their own.

The most rewarding part of being an artist, she says, is the ability to touch lives in profound ways, to inspire others to embrace their uniqueness, and to make people feel good about themselves. She takes pride in her authenticity, which she believes empowers others, particularly young women, to feel confident about their bodies and themselves.

For Coi, becoming a superstar involves navigating numerous challenges, such as maintaining personal relationships, avoiding industry pitfalls, and staying grounded. Despite the trials, she remains committed to her art and excited about her future, which includes collaborations with other artists, an upcoming album, and a continued climb to the top of the music industry.

In a parting message to young female artists, Coi urges them to stay true to their passion, move smartly, protect themselves, and prioritize their careers over romantic relationships. With a sparkling twinkle in her eyes, she declares, "Don't let these niggas really fuck your head over for real. You'll get fucked up with these niggas, right. Don't do it. To all my young females, like don't do it. Play them and do them how they do you. Live by the G code, baby."
